The protagonist and hero of the film lives through the more radical moments in Brazil’s history. It is the love story between an immortal hero and Janaína, the woman he has been in love with for 600 years, through Brazil's colonization, slavery, military regime and the future, in 2096, in the midst of wars for water. This film won The Crystal for Best Feature Film 2013 at the Annecy Animated International Film Festival.  Rio 2096: A Story of Love and Fury is one of 19 films in contention for the Best Animated feature Oscar this year.
